Basically Brilliant! is an inspired division of On the verge, incorporated. The inspiration (actually, one of many) is that we recognized an unmet need and we knew we could fill it. We saw that many web designers were still hand-coding static websites, limiting design options, and charging their clients by the page. We had been designing our own websites and knew that whether you have a 10, 15, or 40 page website is not very relevant. What matters to a visitor is: can I easily understand what this business offers, or do I need to wade through flashy intros, pop-up screens, survey prompts, contest come-ons, and a symphony orchestra. What matters to search engines is: how effectively has the business communicated its story and how fresh is the content.

Dan Sissors, President of Basically Brilliant!, started his academic career on the cusp of the computer revolution. He took his first (and only formal) computer course over 35 years ago (ouch). Back then, programming was done in FORTRAN code, programming was written on punch cards, code was input into a computer the size of a room, and only about twelve people understood what “on-line” meant.

Instead of pursuing a career in software, he became a Ph.D. biochemist and had a first career developing clinical diagnostic assays for major Life Science companies. In addition to biochemistry, Dan was an expert on data analysis and statistics. He wrote many scripts to simplify analysis for himself and colleagues and became one of the local software gurus where he worked.

Dan changed careers in 2007 when he joined On the verge, incorporated, the number one ACT! consulting company in New England. He brought his analytical and project management skills to helping On the verge clients plan and implement CRM projects. Dan created his first website in HTML many, many years ago and began designing websites using open source software about five years ago. But it wasn't until colleagues and friends who had seen his work began asking for their own websites that he started to think of including website design as part of the On the verge services portfolio.

Dan is a founding member of the Complete CRM Solution (CCRMS), an organization for CRM consultants, and is on their Board of Advisors for 2008-2009 and is chair of the CCRMS web committee. The ccrms.org and Complete CRM Solutions sites were designed by Dan.

When he isn't doing something geeky on the computer, Dan has a number of other interests. In addition to the obvious and important ones of wife, children and family, high among Dan's outside interests are blues and jazz guitar and harmonica. After more than 45 of years of playing guitar his family hopes someday he will a play a song from start to finish.
