Web Hosting Review – GoDaddy

If you’ve read my review of BlueHost you might wonder why anyone would ever need another hosting company. It turns out there are a lot of reasons besides hoping you will click on my affiliate link.

Unlike BlueHost that essentially has one product – one size fits all, GoDaddy provides you with numerous choices. They are a big company offering a lot of different products. You can register a domain name, buy a quick, simple website (Website Tonight®) choose from economy, deluxe or premium products, choose Windows or Linux servers, get you own Virtual Server or a dedicated server.

One of the advantages of all these choices is that not only can you choose the product that fits your needs best, but as your needs grow, you can upgrade to more powerful products.

Another advantage is most configuration options you would want to make for your site are possible. Some other hosting companies do not provide you with the ability to configure everything you might need, particularly for advanced options.

I also like GoDaddy because I can manage everything from one account. For example, I register all of my domain names through GoDaddy. I find it a big advantage to manage my domain names from the same GoDaddy account I use to manage my websites.

The complaint many have with GoDaddy is it can be intimidating to figure out how to access all of their options. GoDaddy’s management tools are not the easiest to use and I would not recommend them to a beginner.

Over the last year I have begun using GoDaddy more frequently for my own websites and my more complex client projects. The configuration options are one of the reasons I choose GoDaddy for some projects. Yes, their interface is not straight forward and you often end up with a large number of open windows on your computer just drilling down to where you need to make a configuration change. But some of these changes can’t be made on other hosting provider accounts.

Full disclosure: I really use GoDaddy for client and personal accounts. This site is served from a GoDaddy account. Do I have a vested interest in you choosing GoDaddy? Well, if you click the above banner and purchase a product from GoDaddy, I will get some money. Thank you.

Who has the time?

Let’s say you are a business owner. You have a website that you want to help promote your business. Your business isn’t huge (yet). Maybe it’s just you or a few others. Like many professionals, you have difficulty fitting everything you need to do into your day. So what will you spend your time on?

It’s a challenge to maintain a website. If you want to be ranked high in the search engines you need to continually add new content that is valuable to your potential client or customer base. Your day just got fuller because you’re probably the person who can best describe understands how your company can help someone looking for your goods or services. You need to write the content. At least the first draft. If you are lucky you have someone else who might be able to write drafts that you can edit or who can wordsmith your draft into something compelling for your site.

Most small business owners want to be able to add or edit the content of their website. And when they have something new to add, they want it added now. How difficult is it to add content to a website?

They good news is that the sites that Basically Brilliant! make for clients run on open source CMS software where one of the big advantages is that it is easy to manage your content.
